    We know that many parents have questions regarding sending their child to Mohican Outdoor School. Here are some frequently asked questions, and we hope the answers will help make a more informed and enjoyable visit for your child.

    What is the Student/Teacher ratio at Mohican? 15:1

    How is staff hired at the outdoor school? New staff receive 120 hours of training. All staff hired by September is CPR & First Aid certified. Background checks are done to local police departments, as well as fingerprint checks to the Ohio Bureau of Identification and Investigation and the FBI.

    Does Mohican Outdoor School have a nurse? The school nurse visits every Wednesday of full week sessions only, but is on call 24 hours a day. In the event of an emergency 911 would be called.

    What are the facilities like at Mohican School? All buildings are heated. Both locations of Mohican Outdoor School have private showers with hot and cold running water.

    What do I do if my child has a food allergy, restriction or other problem? If your child will be attending the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) owned and operated by Mohican Outdoor School, please contact Bev Cassity, Food Service Manager at 419-938-6671 regarding the menu and any food related concerns your child may have.

    May my child call home while at the Outdoor School? Phones located at both sites are for business and must be kept open for business calls and/or emergencies. If you need to get a message to your child the classroom teacher will be notified and relay the information to your child. In the event that your child may become ill, the classroom teacher will make a collect call to you notifying you of the details. In cases of severe homesickness, classroom teachers will make the decision to let the child call home collect.

    Please remember to send all medications in their original container - it is state law! Prescription medications will need a doctor's permission while over-the-counter medications require only the parent or legal guardian's signature.
